New Course: Introduction to the Prophets

Last year, a highlight for us was having Western Seminary’s Professor of Old Testament Language and Literature, Dr. Jan Verbruggen, join us in the studio to record several courses on the prophets. We’re excited to share the first of these courses, OT Overview: Introduction to the Prophets,” with you!

Course Description:

A prophet is someone called by God to speak on behalf of God. The prophets of the Old Testament played a major role in the history of God’s people in ancient Israel. They warned the people when they were guilty of rebellion and breaking the covenant with God, and they also urged the people to let go of their false idols and return to relationship with God.

In this course, we will take a look at these prophets: who they were, where they lived, and why we ought to learn about their lives and their messages to ancient Israel. Guiding you through this discussion will be Dr. Jan Verbruggen, Professor of Old Testament Language and Literature and Center Chair of Biblical and Theological Studies at Western Seminary in Portland, OR. Jan earned his bachelor’s degree in Biblical Literature from Northeastern Bible College, A Master of Arts in Old Testament and Semitic Languages from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Johns Hopkins University. He has written numerous journal articles and is a published author.
